The single machine that this is designed to protect is a Windows ME box, running no services (not even Netbois) and ZA. It is used mostly for playing games. I have nothing (really) to want to protect. The reason for having a firewall is basically that I have a spare machine an I want to learn about Linux/Unix firewalling. My chosen platform for this is Mandrake 8 - for the simple reason that I like it and I know it (mush better to know what you are using than to not know?) I will of course upgrade to new versions of linux software that come out but what I'm after here is some advice on rhat iptables rules I need, not bashing because I'm using a x.0 release. If I wanted to protect a proper network I'd be using our in-house EAL4 Trusted Solaris based firewall anyway, not some freebee hack thing thats not been around for long. You're seriously contemplating using version X.0 of anything to protect your crown jewels? You're mad. Or brave. At least wait for the patches to come out... -- Dave Horsfall CL VK2KFU [EMAIL PROTECTED] Ph: +61 2 9906 3377 Fx: * 9906 3468 (Unix Guru) Pacific ESI, Unit 22, 8 Campbell St, Artarmon, NSW 2065, Australia - [To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe firewalls" in the body of the message.] - [To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe firewalls" in the body of the message.]
