Hi,
I am currently doing some mail testing on Blackhole firewall, an ALG firewall that uses store and forward method to deliver mail. Our firewall has generated extreme levels of traffic on our internet connection, by continually attempting to re-send very large messages. The messages in question include very large attachments (several MB), below the maximum allowed (currently set to about 5MB).
In general, such large messages do not cause a problem, but when sent to certain addresses (such as [EMAIL PROTECTED]), and if rejected at the destination, the firewall does not seem to realize that the message has been rejected by the destination, and tries to resend it continuously. To stop this, we must flush the mail queue as a work around. Once a message is in the rejected state, the firewall attempts to re-send such a rejected message every three minutes. Once several messages are in a similar state, our internet connection is in a constant overloaded state.
I don't think this is a firewall problem as it is working fine with most of the sites. It may have some thing to do with the destination mail server's configuration. Is there any thing I can change in firewall's sendmail.cf file to avoid this problem. I don't have a strong knowledge base of the sendmail and will appreciate any input or pointers. Thanks for your time and efforts.
Cheers
Janbaz
