about UDP

Hello everyone,   I am on the subject that designed a communication protocol between firewall and a external server. At the beginning I create a reliable connection between them by using TCP, but in order to increase its performance I want to use UDP, can I complete this job?   Any help will be grateful.   liuhy   2001.9.11
