In dont know FW-1, but with the the system we use has a email proxy that handles the relay or not decision before it hits our mail server. Does FW-1 do that? You may want to look at http://www.mail-abuse.org/tsi/ for some pointers on configuring various mail servers. Also, www.ordb.org has a pretty nice interface for testing your mail server.
