Title: Log Parsing
What are you using to parse through your logs?  I use Perl which has some nice features for clearing EOF so you can basically tail the file without having to do anything to the log itself.

Hi all,

I am writing a script to parse my system log (called xxxx) but I am not sure on the best procedure to get the daily logs and store them. As it stands the script stops syslog moves the file xxxx to a location and apends the date to the file. It then touches xxxx and starts syslog.

Is that an acceptable way to do it ? Of course I loose logging info for the time that it syslog is not running.

Thanks
Mark
