Hi,
        Well.. you could checkout http://www.roble.com/docs/fw1_or_pix.html
for a very pix biased comparison. Personally I think the pix is
arent bad,
However.. the IP boxes have some nice advantages too.. modified bsd
kernel
for eg, filesystems mounted RO.. I think basically.. as per always
its
going to go down to personal preference. Comparisons are always
(even
though people try not to) biased based on opinion/relationship.
I think your best bet, Is to talk to some people, also another thing
thats a good idea, If you have the opportunity.. is to open the box
and
have a look under the hood. It is also very important to judge also
based
on your requirements.. eg: if you have 30 firewalls in your internal
network..
Is it feasable to make alterations to them all regularly if you have
only a command line.
another eg. A home user probably doesnt require a firewall worth a
few thousand $'s etc..
I think the article jw is refering to is
http://www.networkcomputing.com/1225/1225buyers2.html
Do remember of course, that the Nokia IP range.. though it does run
FW-1 which can speak IPSEC (for vpn etc) is not a dedicated 'vpn
appliance'.
It is but a firewall. for vpn's Nokia Crypto Clusters are very nice
IMHO..
They even have shiny LCD panels on them!

        Comments ?

Network computing or magazine just did a review on the nokia, fw-1, pix, and
several others. Take a look at what they have to say regarding this as it
was an extensive test.
