Hi Katie,
I'm not intimately familiar with the Watchguard Firebox product but
it sounds as if it is blocking the ports that NT uses to communicate. Go to
the MS website and search for Q article Q150543. This article lists the
ports that NT uses for it's communication. Bear in mind that browsing via
network neighborhood requires NETBIOS & WINS to perform resolution. Also,
in order to seamlessly browse other domains, the trust relationship must be
in place. It sounds as if that trust is non-existent now that the Firebox
is in place. A common "gotcha" with NT 4.0 trusts is that they can be
"broken" after being unable to communicate for a period of time. They will
appear to be in place if you look at your list of trusted/trusting domains
but communication will not be taking place. The only way to fix this is to
delete the trust on both domains and then recreate it. Test the trust first
before doing this. Another thing to keep in mind is that after you make the
changes on the Firebox, give the domain(s) about 30 minutes to synch up
before you get too radical with your NT changes. I wish you luck and if
anyone has any further information or clarification, please chime in. It's
been a while since I've had to deal with NT networking.
