The netBSD mailing list would probably be your best place to post questions like these. However, the problem is probably as simple as a bad floppy. What you want to do is this: 'dd if=boot1.fs of=/dev/fd0c bs=16k'. Make sure the input blocks is the same as the output blocks .... then you should be OK. Also, if I understand you correctly, you are running your firewall on a laptop?
