Anantha,

Basically an open port mean that there is a service listening to that
for incoming network connections. To close the port you just have
to disable the service or daemon listening on that port.

A closed port means that there isnt a service or daemon listening
or using the port. To open it you can install the service or daemon 
and configure it to listen to that port.

To get the IP address of an email you simply need to look at the
header of the email message. In this header you can find the 
mailservers it passed to get to your ISP or own mailserver.
It even has the exact client which it has been send from. But this
isnt always right because you can strip this information on the 
mailserver for possible security reasons.
