Rick,

I can't tell you the exact problem but here are some things I would
look at. There should be part of the bounce message that has "content type
=". What is the "Content-Type" in the bounce message and what is the "Body
=" type in the original message? This could be an issue with conversion
from 8bit to 7bit. Not all MIME types can be converted to 7 bits so if you
have an 8 bit MIME message with a type of multipart/ and you are trying to
convert it to 7 bits this error may occur. Or, it could be something
completely different =) If you troubleshoot a lot of mail problems I
highly recommend getting the Sendmail book (aka the bat book) from O'Reilly
press.

Regards,
Jeffery Gieser

This is a bit OT but I'm desperate to find an answer.
I have a W2K server in my DMZ running SMTP relay mail
to an internal mail server. I'm seeing occasional
delivery failures with the following error:

Reporting-MTA: dns;mail.mycompany.com

Received-From-MTA: dns;mail.othercompany.com

Arrival-Date: Mon, 8 Apr 2002 12:13:01 -0400

Final-Recipient: rfc822;[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Action: failed

Status: 5.6.1

Diagnostic-Code: smtp;554 5.6.1 Body type not
supported by Remote Host

Final-Recipient: rfc822;[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Action: failed

Status: 5.6.1

Diagnostic-Code: smtp;554 5.6.1 Body type not
supported by Remote Host

The vast majority of emails are getting through fine
but these are failing. I've searched all over the
place for some explanation of the error but haven't
found much of anything. If anyone can shed some light
on this I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks.
