Here's the big problem with that though. In that thread I was not the person telling people what they should/shouldn't do or what was/was not good practice. I never said that I supported or recommended the use of VLANs, nor did I ever say that one should use separate VLANs or not. In fact, about the only statement remotely close to those that I made was that I happened to believe that hubs made great DMZ's. Simply put, I had no skin in that game, and had no position that warranted me to defend it, as I had not gone out of my way to condemn or condone a design.
I do not believe that it is wise or prudent to make blanket statements and generalizations in regards to security design and DMZ layout, as every situation is unique and different, which means that solutions will often be unique and different. Consequently, I felt no desire to bite off on attempting to defend a position that I don't think can be adequately done under such general circumstances. If you and Paul are really as aged and experienced as you both purport to be, I would expect you both to have learned that lesson and that you would both refrain from making such general statements. Frankly, being "old" is not a prerequisite or an indicator of experience, skill or competence. Wes Noonan, MCSE/MCT/CCNA/CCDA/NNCSS Senior QA Rep. BMC Software, Inc.
