hi ya

when we had UUnet... its typically $1500 for the T1
and the shadow T1 was about $200..
( am in silicon valley ...costs little more/less here??

        - the shadow t1 is always in standby ... unless they detect
that the primary t1 went down... shadow cannot be used till than

but for the same $200 - $500...you can get a rack in a colo...
and if they too are NOT using the same POP as your primary t1 carrier...
you'd be in better shape with a real backup that you can use 24x7
        - shadow t1 is not worth it... get a rack at a colo is better

you should have a functional/registered secondary dns with each
"connection" ...
primary dns on west coast... secondary dns on east coast

if people in the office need to get online when the primary t1 goes
down ... get a second t1 from tom-dick-n-harry isp carrier...
and do load sharing...

and pull the plug on the primary dns and see if everything works
