(Discussion COLOPHON --From Y.X.Zhong)

Dear FIS friends and colleagues,

It was very nice to have such a good discussion on the topic of "Intelligence and Information" during the past weeks. From every point of view, I should say that the discussion was really fruitful and hence successful. I appreciate it very highly and would like to express my thanks to Pedro and to all friends who made contributions, and paid attention, to the discussion.

As the theme of the discussion, intelligence and information are utmost important topics and are also amongst the most difficult issues in contemporary sciences, I believe. Both intelligence and information are deeply involved with all range of the spectrum of disciplines in modern sciences -- philosophy, mathematics, social sciences, natural sciences, applied sciences and so forth. Therefore, it is not possible, and also not the purpose, to draw some "absolute conclusions" in such a short period of discussion. Instead, the discussion has once again aroused the interest from scientists worldwide and great number of friends have frankly contributed their deep, creative, and diverse considerations, making all of us think more and more. This is the real benefit provided to us from the discussion.

Although the discussion has been over for the time being, the following two points of view may be worth of re-mentioning I think:

(1) Because the concept of information is so complicated, we may have to have a set of systematic definitions of information: ontological information, epistemological information and so on in good order; instead of seeking only one single definition of information.

(2) As a kind of resource, information should be under manipulation to become some further products for human utilization. One category of such products is knowledge and another is intelligence. This could be regarded as "Information Conversion" which may be as important, or even more important, as "Energy Conversion".

Whether the two points are correct or not, we do not discuss for the moment; but we will have many chances to do it sometime later.

Dear friends and colleagues, may I once again deliver my sincere thanks to you all and wish you the best in the year of 2011 and the years to come.
