That is definitely true in the situation where you move around a _lot_ between directories. I find that this is very rarely the case, though. Are your usage patterns that different from mine? One way to make prevd/nextd even more ready to completely replace pushd/popd would be if they displayed the entire directory history with the current item marked while moving around. That way it would be even easier to locate the correct directory in the list. The same thing could be done with the history search.
