I can't handle these spaces and "…" fish uses to separate lines. They make my command-lines all messed up when I copy/paste them. And to add insult to injury, when I paste them into another fish shell and try to delete the extra characters so I can run the command, I accidentally delete too many, can't find a way to undo the deletion, so I delete everything. Then I try pasting again, delete again, and a second time accidentally delete too much! (It's really hard to tell the pasted-in ellipses from the the fish-generated ones: only a small color difference.) A third time I try again, find my paste-buffer different, and re-copy the original text, and try again. Darn, I thought I knew what I was doing, but no, a third time I have yet again deleted too much! Argh! A character at a time, deleting! Now reveals that many of what looked so much like spaces were actually a newline character! Now this command-line looks weird with a word broken by ellipses but I think it's correct again...
But there was my semantic error in the original command, so I play around some more, and the next time I try to copy-paste a piece of fish command-line, it pretends I meant to press enter immediately, and gives me an error for the "command". I have never seen a really friendly shell yet. I'm not sure it's entirely possible without some cooperation of the terminal emulator, so as to behave properly within X. -Isaac ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace.
