Sorry for the delayed response. There used to be a rather incomplete
vi-mode, but the input handling was rewritten and it was dropped. On the
plus side, the new input handler makes it possible to implement vi-mode
mostly in shellscript, making it significantly easier if anybody would like
to take on the task.
