Git repositories are the same, regardless of the presentation layer (GitHub, Gitorious, instaweb, gitk, tig, or whatever) sitting in front of them. We can definitely have a GitHub mirror of the official Gitorious repository so GitHub-preferring folks can fork and hack away. When their work is integrated (by merge or cherry-pick) into the official repository, you'll see it in the cool Network Graph on GitHub (even though you've forked a "GitHub mirror" of a "Gitorious repository").
