The gitorious repo still uses the original, plain ol' autotools, but has
merged in some of the benhoskins changes, like this multiline prompt one.
So the "./configure; make; make install" triplet should get you by (works
for me on ubuntu).
As Martin said, the dependencies are listed over at fishshell.com, at:
http://fishshell.com/INSTALL
(This file is in the source tree as well, anyway.)
I think the only trick that folks have needed in the past, that isn't in
those instructions, was to call configure like this:
'./configure --without-xsel'
See how you go, anyway...
