Hi,

it seems that 'nothing appropriate' is the 'apropos' command output.  
Apropos is called to print command description.
It seems that new versions of apropos print error message if the command  
is not found to the stderr.

I've fixed it in https://github.com/fish-shell/fish-shell/pull/262 .
You can do it manually by changing
        apropos $argv | awk
to
        apropos $argv ^/dev/null | awk
in __fish_describe_command function.
