I don't see anything obviously wrong but there seems to be 2 likely possibilities. Either the code somehow assumes the users shell is Bourne like - a terrible assumption that presumably breaks under tcsh et al as well - or it is relying on something in your environment that happens to be different when you use the other shell. I would probably guess it's the later (sans any error messages to judge by) as I would think the former would be picked up fairly quickly.
