When troubleshooting, reduce as many differences as possible. Your command in the script and you interactive command are different.
In the script:
diskutil erasevolume HFS+ ramdisk $ramdiskpath
Interactively:
diskutil erasevolume HFS+ ramdisk "/dev/disk1"
