Hi all,

I am very pleased to announce the release of version 2.6.0 of fish.

This release has seen fixes for many longstanding issues in fish, and
in particular has improved compatibility with popular tools like fzf,
sensible behaviour on unusual systems and a new `disown` builtin which
restores the ability to leave background tasks running when the terminal
is closed.

As always, before upgrading, please read the release notes carefully.

The tarball and packages for Linux, OS X and Windows will soon be
available from https://fishshell.com/ and the release notes will be at
https://fishshell.com/release_notes.html - but in the meantime I have
uploaded the release to the GitHub releases page at:
  https://github.com/fish-shell/fish-shell/releases/tag/2.6.0

The Linux packages have been submitted to the release:2 channel, and if
you are using your system package manager to install fish from these
channels a new version will make its way to you soon.

A pull request for Homebrew has been submitted, and should be available
to users of that system shortly.

For our distributors, the tarball is available at
https://github.com/fish-shell/fish-shell/releases/tag/2.6.0 - the
SHA-256 sum is
7ee5bbd671c73e5323778982109241685d58a836e52013e18ee5d9f2e638fdfb and the
tarball has a signature from my personal PGP key, as does this message.

A big thank you to all those who have contributed code, documentation,
problem reports, and Github reactions over the last four months.

It's our pleasure to particularly welcome the following contributors who
have commits in 2.6.0 for the first time:

Adam Byrtek, Adriaan Zonnenberg, Alan Somers, Alex Gaynor, Andrei
