No, the connection will be reset on the server side if it doesn't get
keep-alives for some time.  And even if it would reconnect afterwards,
I'll probably get a different IP.

Yes, at least in theory.  In practice, connecting to the VPN is an
interactive business with typing in two-factor authentication codes...

So I'll take the POSIX trap approach.
