The CPU Hums, Incessant.
========================

Sometimes at night, two blankets deep
I still have a thousand tiny mountains
rising from my skin; and my teeth
shaking like the hands on the old man
who smiled when I said goodnight;
unaccustomed to friendly youth.

Staring at my ceiling, divided
by the thinnest, most radiant slice
of pixelated light, connected
to everything for me, meditating
in binary, my dreams processing
in the hum of its CPU.

25 Minutes later, the bursting;
and the light explodes, fills the room
and disappears- still awake
as the network is sleeping.
I stare ahead, in the darkness,
desperate to find the treasure chest
inside my eyelids.

"All we need is a little more light,
all we need is a little more hope."

Where have you gone, all of you?
I told you all once, what I found
that made me keep living. Perhaps
it was never enough for you; though
still it fills my room, when the light
has disappeared, though I shiver.

But oh, to connect this side
of the ceiling, with mine
she could build telescopes;
so far away from me, to see
through my window- my breath
rises, like the thin mist of clouds
that pass by your moon.

Come on, all of you, tomorrow
when the light surrounds us
and the cold has gone away
I'll take you to the city
and show you what I loved so much
I couldn't bear you to forget.

We'll go down to the city
after the storm, where
trees and lamp posts
are only shadows
of fallen snow.
