I saw the glaciers explode,
and lava poured out, along
with submarines and old records
and drawings of dinosaurs,
and cabinets full of flying saucers,
and old limping women.
The penguins jumped
on their bellies and slid for
the green, and the piebald seals
barked off and away. The ice rose
in gasping swathes of steam,
and the lava slithered and hissed.
The ash settled for days,
and my hair turned black,
and the glacier broke off,
and the seals and penguins
were gone, but, finally,
everything was fresh.
