TO BEGIN:
Life breaks down
into a series of disappointments
followed by opportunities
for new disappointments.
Death is just a bit easier
than when she has a cell phone
and still doesn't bother
telling you not to wait,
that she's not
coming back.
The new goal:
meet people,
and go away
before the inevitable
disappointments.
THE INEVITABLE DISAPPOINTMENTS:
1.
They do not know
the picture of the cowgirl on stilts
is proof of god.
2.
Declaring "what the hell"
and going on to all sorts
of horrific behaviors;
"what the hell, __________"
-film me having sex,
-give me that cocaine,
-etc.
3.
They claim to know you are
a complex emotional being,
but prefer to finish
some small business matter.
4.
Meet someone else,
and no longer have time.
5.
Offer no justification,
but disappear nonetheless.
6.
Forgets your invitation,
turns off the camera
when she talks to you,
turns it on again
for the kid with the beer
and pantera tee shirt.
7.
Breaths.
Eats.
Sleeps.
CORRECTING THE BASIC FALLACIES
1.
Perfectionism should not be
idealism, but should be
a practical expectation.
This is not so.
2.
One should never find
any matter of greater importance
than the offer of connection
with another human being.
This is not so.
3.
Talking honestly should not be
an invitation to boredom.
This is not so.
4.
The financial wages lost
by a loved ones negligence
should never be greater
than the emotional harm
of cross words and anger.
This is not so.
5.
The emotional wages lost
by a loved ones negligence
should never be greater
than the emotional harm
of cross words and anger.
This is not so.
6.
Love should be reciprocated, always.
This is not so.
7.
Gifts should be respected,
Words should be believed,
Faith should be upheld,
Demands should be forgiven,
Forgiveness should be free,
and moral support should be available
at all times.
This is not so.

One should not request an apology
before it is granted, but it should
be granted independently of your
own awareness of the grievance.
This is not so.
9.
You may prove yourself worthy of love
through deeds, action, loyalty and
effort.
This is not so.
AND SO WE MAY CONCLUDE ON A SINGLE FACT WHICH WE KNOW
TO BE TRUE, DESPITE THE AFOREMENTIONED FOLLIES:

THE WORLD DOES NOT CARE AS MUCH AS IT SHOULD, ABOUT THE
OBVIOUS. YET SOMEHOW, WE THINK WE WILL SURVIVE.
