deep in the valley's of the desert
where i lay my head to rest at night
a shadow creeps, but no darkness follows

the shadow is a veil of blinding light and searing heat
and when this veil approaches
the desert and all of it's denizens shrink back in horror
the land seems barren and wasted
and from this it produces tough and surly creatures
creatures with armored hides, tusks and fangs,
poisonous venoms..., and each one promises danger

from the loins of this intolerant place i have sprung
from my eyes spring poisonous tears
and from my warm hands grow piercing needles
and though my hide is coarse and thick
it longs for just one soft touch

i fear i may never earn it
