1.
I would like to be as true as a hologram
I saw in the snow this winter day.
A streaking silver shimmer crossed
pinks and blues against the tyranny
of gray and white and gray
and gray, and white, and gray.

I would like to be as true as cracking ice
in the rearview mirror, breaking free
like tiny flat birds to the sky
tumbling down into white explosions
on black ice and asphalt.

I would like to watch my heart
crack at the seam, like sheets of ice
over car windows, tiny cracks
becoming moisture as the cabin warms,
slowly to dripping, and then the wipers
send giant glaciers to the street.

I'd like to shatter everything away
that covers up the green within me-
from the inside out, I'd like to feel
some warmth in my stomach;
to grow light from my fingertips,
to never shiver. To hold a sun
inside my heart, an engine
to move me forward, a soft glow
maybe sparks in my eyes.

2.
If only trying got us more than credit-
at the end of this trip, there are debts to pay
and something must be done, if we are
to pay them- we must have the glow enough
to justify 80 years of eating.
