1. There are boxes of cables and connections for radio wires and setting up the satellites movies look better with some, it's true, and I am setting up their screens to get them so close to true so they don't need to worry about distracting picture artifacts breaking illusions of crystalline perfection in reality in their living room.

Some TV's are so good now
all the beautiful movie stars are hating them
because you can see the make up
on the televisions stars, and when they
don't wear the make up, you can see
the wrinkles and the acne and the
humanness of them, and the fake wood

They have to bring in real wood now
for David Letterman's Desk, because
after 20 years and millions of viewers
they had been only using a very convincing
cardboard mock up of a real tree.

Bringing bits and pieces of reality in
to make the illusions more convincing
and more customizable and now
we can Tivo the shows so we can "lead
our lives at our own schedule"
we have been slaves to the schedule
for 58 or some odd years, and of course
we haven't been, have we? Really?

I sell the wires to make it all possible
I connect the illusions to your eyes
so well they cannot tell the difference
Component cable for HD in all their
RGB glory, the pictures split between
reds and greens and blues, and I like
to plug them in wrong, sometimes
and the whole world spins and stretches
splits in half and folds over on itself

"That TV is so big and clear, I could
almost dive in!" she said; and I think
of Alice in Wonderland, and I think
of Beaudrillard, and I think of
simulations, endless spaces for filling
up with duplicates, for filling up
with safer versions of reality,
with safer notions of reality,
with safer dreams we can call
reality, and if those dreams hurt us
we can turn them off, or we can
bring in elements of this reality
slowly- today, the desk, tomorrow,
our children! Televise it all, throw
out all analogue, expose the limitations
of "fidelity" and delete it all
once we've seen it, to make room
for more recordings.

Mosquitoes ignore the open window,
preferring the computer monitor.
