A consummate daughter of New England,
my mother sends me a fair isle sweater in August.
I live in Georgia and wear white dresses,
but that poker's still pressing its S into my back.
Strapped in to Colossus, I want to go home:
wear something thick and grey or green,
five pairs of socks and still slush my feet
quietly into the BPL. I forget how to write poems,
I forget how to do anything,
it is too hot and there are too many palmetto bugs
so I knit blindly like an old woman
and I think what if I could scoop you up
into the snow of orange Massachusetts
and numb what's come before today.
