I understand that the state of the previous value is not to be changed when a null is received. But, should the value be output, i.e., is the field active? If it is not, then it seems to me that the previous value really has four states, undefined, assigned, empty and inactive (assigned, but no field). Section 10.5.1 "A NULL indicates that the delta is absent. Note that the previous value is not set to empty but is left untouched if the value is absent." I do not think the above statement from the specification is very clear as to what is to happen in this case. Please straighten me out. Thanks. BTW: I was able to write a working decoder in about 12 working days. Had the specification been clearer, better written with more examples, I could have done it in far less time. I had to make myself a cheat sheet. Somebody needs to reorganize/rewrite that thing.
