melissa, i totally relate to your experience. when i got oz home last year, i
boarded him twice at the place i had been taking lessons, at first just to
get to know him, and then to work on a few things for blue earth. he did fine,
it was me who was nervous.

i found the same thing with the other boarders and all their
warmbloods....they loved him, or at least were curious enough to ask about
him. the owner
absolutely gushed at him, and her barn helper just had to ruffle his ample
forelock every time she saw him. they do make quite an impression, don't
they?

oz and i are finally settling into what i think is a trusting relationship. i
got him as a very timid rider. while he did nothing really out of line when i
rode him, except for a few small spooks at a desensitizing clinc we attended,
i was still apprehensive. i don't ride much at all in the winter, it's either
too cold or icy, but now that spring is making an appearance, i have been
working him in the pasture. i get out my lunge whip, and he runs from one end
of
the pasture to the other, mostly just on voice command. when we are done, i
put the whip down, put on his rope halter and walk around to cool off. he is
very good now on lead, and follows me well. we do some dancing.......quick
moves
left and right, backing, turning on the forehand. i am working toward getting
him to follow off lead too, and for the most part he does that, too. i have
learned i can trust him, and he is quite the big bear now.....quite a change
from my last horse. i will start riding again as soon as the mud dries up,
it's
pretty darn slippery still.

laurie and oz the wonder boy ( or is that the doughboy?)
