This message is from: "Pat Holland" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> A couple days ago Cynthia Madden remarked how she could see cartoons made from some of the stories we hear on the Digest.
Many years ago Patti Jo Walter suggested trying to do a book - something along the lines of the old "Thelwell" cartoons but with Fjords and sort of a cross with "The Far Side" venue. Perhaps some of you are familiar with the "Non Sequitor" cartoon strip with "Lucy and Dande" - I guess I've always wondered if it would sell, as the amount of work would be enormous. As far as I know Carol is the only Fjord person whom published and I was curious what it takes in terms of money and dynamics to get something like done. Those of you whom are not familiar with my cartoons I have a few on my website www.pathollandtraining.com I started doing these cartoons back in the 70' - during the gas crunch, AQHA allowed for shows to be back to back in one location to help exhibitors with the cost of travel. Circuits grew and there were big ones. One in particular was 28 days long - I was working for a family then with a moterhome - during lulls during the day and after classes I used to sit in the comfort of air-conditioning and draw what I saw - you can imagine the friendships and "bonding" developing among us - one place, showing for 28 days. Getting to know the people, and their horses, watching them show, and work their horses and caring for their horses 24/7 - it was interesting to say the least. So I started the cartoons and oddly enough people loved them. No one was ever offended by my brand of humor and still today I get Christmas cards from people who say they still have the cartoons - that the hung on the walls along with the trophies - I guess this would be a good time to mention I am offering a certificate for a cartoon or a serious picture - to the silent auction at the Midwest Fjord Horse Club winter meeting in Winona in Feb. My cartoons are my relaxation after a day in the barn training - Pat Holland In snowy, icy northwestern Illinois
