I've been reading all the posts on the unregistered fjords and at first I was
a bit taken aback. I "thought" all fjords were registered. Then I realized
"duh"...look at all the unregistered arabs, TB's , QH's...the list goes on
and on. I am thankful that the breed I love has such distinguishable traits
that you know what breed they are. I have never seen a cross (maybe someone
could send me a pic so I can see what traits dominate), but if what we saw in
the gelding was a cross then I can see what characteristics are lost.

What I did object to was how the MARE was advertised. Puppy dog? She was
made out to be the perfect little pony...at 5. This is a wonderful, people
oriented breed. But it is still a horse. I think ads like that hurt the
breed more than the fact that these fjords were unregistered. One other
question...are breeders required to keep a log of breedings? As in
who/what/when? I know a responsible fjord breeder would never breed to
another breed, but there are unscruplulous people out there as well as people
who who may have bought stud colts, left them entire and just don't know
about the policies regarding breeding fjords.
Just food for thought...
Kate
