This message is from: "Jean Gayle" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cindy, you probably have a calcium deficiency for one thing. Bran and barley have little calcium, as does local grass and timothy has less than alfalfa. Also dry ground requires greasing of hooves. How is the selenium there? We have had a dry and beautiful winter here and I am struggling with a crack in a very healthy otherwise hoof that keeps splitting. Every other day I put oil on it and it seems to be working. Maybe Steve will suggest something. Genetics are possible but the unrelated horse having it also implies a systemic problem I should think. Jean
