Just consider the rising costs of things in general, the rapidly increasing population of the world, and all the present cries from the Third World about the waste of the US growing inefficient cattle and other large animals for food, rather than using the grain to feed the worlld's poor. Every scenario (other than a mention of horses in an ST episode) of the future in space SicFi seems to indicate meat is OUT, and from that, I assume large animals in general. Smoke 'em while you got 'em, because I strongly suspect the long-term future of horses for non-essential uses is slowly winding down during this century. Merek
