Given the way things are advancing now, I seriously wonder IF anyone
other than the rich will even be able to afford a to keep a horse or
horses for personal use. Just consider the rising costs of things in
general, the rapidly increasing population of the world, and all the
present cries from the Third World about the waste of the US growing
inefficient cattle and other large animals for food, rather than using
the grain to feed the worlld's poor. Every scenario (other than a
mention of horses in an ST episode) of the future in space SicFi seems
to indicate meat is OUT, and from that, I assume large animals in
general. Smoke 'em while you got 'em, because I strongly suspect the
long-term future of horses for non-essential uses is slowly winding
down during this century. Merek
