We had one pony here who would roll in the spring when he was shedding - and
only then.  I guess the itch was too much for him in spite of grooming within an
inch of his life.  We wound up clipping and vacuuming him.  Another pony was
just BAD and would lay down when she got tired of giving lessons.  Having her
move forward strongly whenever she showed the urge seemed to prevent most
episodes.
