This message is from: "McInvailles" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi List:
I made a mistake and wanted to clear the air: I wrote that "coccidiomycosis" was a possible disease from birds. I meant to write "coccidiosis"... coccidiomycosis is caused from inhaling mold spores found in soil in SW usa, mexico and central/south america. Psitticosis: is bird transmitted, as I said (inhaled: causes pneumonia). Coccidiosis: is orally transmitted from animals to humans ...and dogs, I guess.(fecal oral transmission) for some strains (other strains it is transmitted fecal/orally from human/human, or by eating infected carnivorous animal) Several different strains (one is Cryptosporidium, fairly well known): causes diarrhea etc. Take home message: wash those hands! Turkey ticks??? I really don't know and don't have any resources at home. I will try to remember to look it up at work. I do know that we get a variety of itchy skin eruptions from birds (like swimming in ponds where ducks live and have droppings), but I am not sure about their mites or ticks. Sorry, I should never type before my morning coffee ! Krissy
