Yes, it is the unexpected accident or stumble that can really do you in. One of the worst falls on my head occurred after a great session with my instructor working on canter departs, we were just slowly trotting around when Bjorken stumbled and went down on his nose and I flew oever his head and hit right on my head. The helmet saved me from a nasty head injury. You can have the most gentle horse in the world, bombproof, etc. and he can slip or stumble through no falt of his own or yours, dumping you on your head. Wear that helmet every time!
