Sarah,
Go to the NFHR website and then to the documents and forms
section: http://www.nfhr.com/newsinfo.html#Documents Scroll down to
the two PDF documents "Color in Fjord Horses" by D. Phillip
Sponenberg, DVM, PhD Parts 1 and 2. http://www.nfhr.com/PDF/Color1.pdf
http://www.nfhr.com/PDF/Color2.pdf He explains the genetics pretty well.
Dr. Sponenberg has several excellent books on Horse color genetics, the
latest edition of course is the best, as he studies and learns still more.
I never know there were so many variation of dun colors as well as
different shades of chestnut, sorrel, etc etc that you can learn about in
his book. Excellent color photos of all the colors, etc. "EQUINE COLOR
GENETICS" second edition", published in 2003, available from the Iowa State
University Press.
Jamie Morris has put a chart of Fjord color combinations on the website
also: http://www.nfhr.com/Colors.htm#ColorChart Scroll down to the
bottom to see the chart.

Can somebody sort me out on which variants of dun are dominant to which
others, or is it so complicated I need a whole other text book. (I think
I have brown -uber dominent and red sort of figured out, it's the others
that confuse me.) thanks in advance for anybody who helps or provides a
