Horses are funny sometimes. We had a gelding (Mo) that would match his pasture
buddies. If he was with the weanlings he was playful and gentle. When he was
with the stallion he would bully right back. When we had a horse that might be
a little more aggressive than we liked we would put them in with Mo and he
would teach them manners. He was a great horse for this. We would even lend
him to others for this purpose and the pastures were back to friendly.

Sometimes it just takes a horse a quick reminder that they are not the
toughest thing on hooves by another hoofed animal. I do not recommend putting
your boy in danger, but maybe locate a tough mare that will remind him how
hierarchy works.

I have a 3 yr old fjord gelding that is very aggressive to the other horses
when it's time to come in. He kicks the other horses violently and charges
at them in order to be first one at the gate. He is aggressive to the other
gelding and also controlling with the mares. I'm going to have to isolate
him for the safety of the other horses. Does anyone have any other
suggestions or has dealt with the problem in the past? Thank you.
Joan
