Thinking about this a little more, there is already a well supported mechanism for incorporating metadata into FLAC files/streams, namely VorbisComments. Therefore, I don't see any need for extended file attributes to be attached to a FLAC file. Instead, extended file attributes attached to a WAVE file (or whatever) could be converted to VorbisComments in a FLAC file/stream. And vice-versa. This strikes me as a useful thing to do. Note that with this scheme there would be no need to touch the various music player input plugins.
