I remember that thread but I can't remember if that command is exactly what you want. everyone has little differences in their situation that makes a general solution hard. this list is not really the place for shell tutorial, I highly recommend this book: http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/bash3/ and if you're on windows, install http://cygwin.com/
