Hi Nik, Check out SWFStudio, it offers ADO connectivity. Downside is ADO has to be installed on the machine.
Alternatively check out the Catalog plugin for SWFStudio - offers search functions through a flat tab delimited file. We used it to do exactly what you describe for a HUGE floor tile manufacturer's sample CD.
