If you dig in the list archives (if they are still around), i wrote a bit about how i used onBeforeUnload to trigger Flash and i know other people chimed in. In IE-only situations, i found it best to catch the onBeforeUnload event, tell Flash via setVariable, open a modal dialog box (so the main browser won't close) then either have the modal box close itself after a few seconds, or have a localConnection or sharedObject setup to let a Flash movie in the modal dialog know the main Flash was done and it could close itself, which would in turn close the first, main window. whew! :-)
