Look at ElectroServer as well.

Basically, FCS is a huge media server, and quite expensive. For chat systems, it is not needed. ElectroServer and Unity are XML socket servers, much more appropriate for chat, which is basically just text.

There are also free socket servers out there, but for the most part, you get what you pay for.
