I am importing the following
import mx.remoting.NetServices;
import mx.remoting.debug.NetDebug;
and I am pointing to
NetServices.setDefaultGatewayUrl("http://xxx/flashservices/gateway";);
All works fine. The Flash application works great. I am just not seeing any
trace in the NetConnection Debugger any more

you said you called NetDebug.initialize(), but are you including the
RemotingDebugClasses in the library? also, are you including an absolute
path to gateway.php?
