if the answers is: "hey dude, this is not going to work properly, ever", then please just completely remove wmode. It is getting people mad.
It's not broken - people use it, look at the advertising industry using it on millions of pages/sites every day with their wonderful over the page transparent advertising... If you don't like it and it's not meeting your project's requirements of being consistent/stable enough then don't use it. ...and I don't think anyone could answer the "ever" remark.
