Take a look at some of the 3rd party swf2exe tools. For instance, with SWF Studio you can use Flash and JScript to manipulate an Excel spreadsheet - not just read it. With JScript you have control over the Excel COM object. You could also use SWF Studio's ADO plugin to read the spreadsheet as if it was a database.
