thomas, that is a really interesting question in my view. i understand your rationale. i am partly playing devil's advocate, but since this is merely an email list, we do not have any other tools to express how we felt about a particular comment. also, i think the nature of the OP's original comment will help define whether these comments are more 'acceptable'.
it was my comment that got that +1. i was explaining a feeling that got cemented in me when i was younger, and only one preson responded. if i got no feedback at all it would not make me feel good. i would start questioning if what i felt was valid or not, yada yada... if he was sincere about the 'finally some facts +1' then i am very glad he (out of many), responded with anything. maybe my thread was too abstract even for myself (i definitely got lost a bit), but its nice to get feedback, that's why we are part of this list right? i don't want people to overdo that kind of thing, but as an email list we are limited and i think there has got to be room to play. i'll poke my head out the brush for a moment, don't want to suffocate myself yet. 2012/1/19 Cédric Muller <[email protected]> > I might tend to think that it isn't necessary, and not very informative. > BUT, if you take the mail that got this +1, I think in overall they > compensate each other ;) > (AND, I should have read and accumulate instead of replying to this mail > :P ) > > Cedric > > > Dear List, > > I sincerely do not want to offend anybody here but is it really > neccessary to simply approve a mail witjh answers like: > > > > "finally some facts. > > +1" > > > > > > I know we all need to show our appreciation of a well designed statement > once in a while and I am hopefully far from supressing discussion and > dialog, but in my deeply humble opinion this is a List with the primary > focus on coding matters, be it technical or philosophical (or sometimes > plain funny to sarcastic!).
